USA (Commonwealth Union)_ Vivek Ramaswamy, a 39-year-old biotech entrepreneur with aspirations of shaping Ohio’s political landscape, is set to officially launch his campaign for Ohio governor on February 24. Ramaswamy, who previously ran as a 2024 presidential candidate, will start his highly anticipated bid in his hometown of Cincinnati, with additional campaign events scheduled for February 25 in the cities of Columbus, Toledo, and Cleveland. The launch event will take place at CTL Aerospace Inc. in Cincinnati, followed by a visit to Axium Packaging in New Albany, just outside Columbus. Ramaswamy, who made headlines in 2024 for his presidential campaign and his departure from President Donald Trump’s government efficiency initiative last month, will continue his announcement tour across the state in the coming days.

On February 25, he is slated to appear at the Glass City Center in Toledo and The Local Bar in Strongsville, a Cleveland suburb. Ramaswamy’s candidacy adds another layer of competition to the already contested Republican primary for Ohio governor. He aims to succeed the term-limited Gov. Mike DeWine. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and Heather Hill, a former member of the state’s Martin Luther King Commission, are also in the race for the GOP nomination. Former Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, once considered a frontrunner, withdrew after being appointed to the US Senate seat previously held by Vice President JD Vance, a long-time friend of Ramaswamy.

Despite lacking political experience, Ramaswamy has gained early momentum with key endorsements from two Republican statewide officials: Secretary of State Frank LaRose and Treasurer Robert Sprague. His campaign is already setting a robust schedule, with plans to address 30 county Republican dinners throughout the spring, from March 3 to May 22. These events will be pivotal in strengthening his connections within the state’s GOP base. Ramaswamy’s entry into the governor’s race is poised to be competitive. In addition to Yost, former Ohio Health Director Dr. Amy Acton is running as the sole Democratic contender. The race comes as Ohio, once a crucial battleground state, has increasingly leaned Republican in recent elections.

Raised in Evendale, Ohio, by Indian immigrant parents, Ramaswamy’s background in business and his family’s local ties give him a unique perspective on the state’s challenges. His father worked as an engineer at General Electric Aviation, and his mother was a geriatric psychiatrist. Ramaswamy, who now resides in suburban Columbus with his family, filed the necessary paperwork with the Ohio Secretary of State’s office ahead of his February 24 campaign launch. As Ohio’s political landscape prepares for the battle ahead, all eyes will be on Ramaswamy and his bid to make history as the next governor of Ohio.
