New Delhi (Commonwealth Union)_ Kristen Fischer, an American woman who has been living in Delhi for the past four years, recently shared why she prefers raising her children in India instead of the United States. As a content creator at SkyFish Development and a mother of three, Fischer has listed eight compelling reasons she believes her children will thrive while growing up in India. Having relocated to India in 2021 with her husband and three daughters, Fischer, who works at a web development firm, regularly shares her experiences managing a household in India through Instagram. In one of her recent posts, she elaborated on why she feels her children will benefit immensely from being raised in the diverse and culturally rich environment of India.

Taking to Instagram, she posted, “My kids will benefit so much by growing up in India. Here are just a few of the ways they will be better off spending their childhood here instead of the USA”. The post resonated with many of her followers. Among the factors Fischer highlighted were cultural awareness, adaptability, multilingualism, resilience, and independence, all of which she believes will help her children grow into well-rounded individuals. She further emphasized that growing up in India would provide her children with a unique perspective of the world, helping them connect with people from different walks of life.

Emotional intelligence

One of the first points Fischer made was that living in India will nurture her children’s emotional intelligence. According to Fischer, exposure to diverse cultures and people will help her children develop empathy, strengthen their social skills, and foster deeper connections with others. This emotional awareness will serve them well as they navigate their personal and professional lives in the future.

Strong family bonds

In her post, Fischer also praised the strong family dynamics in India, which emphasize close-knit relationships and emotional support. She believes this sense of belonging and community will be an invaluable part of her children’s upbringing. “Indian families value close relationships, and this will give my children a sense of emotional security and stability,” she wrote.

Appreciation for simplicity and gratitude

Fischer noted that India’s socio-economic diversity, particularly the stark contrasts between wealth and poverty, teaches valuable life lessons. She believes that experiencing such contrasts will help her children appreciate the importance of simplicity, humility, and gratitude for what they have. This, she argues, is something that might not be as evident in the more materialistic culture of the United States.

Connection to global networks

Growing up in a diverse, multicultural environment will allow Fischer’s children to forge friendships with peers from around the world. These global connections, she believes, will help them build a network that could prove beneficial for their future careers. “They will meet people from different parts of the world, creating a global network that could open doors for them later in life,” she wrote.

Cultural awareness and adaptability

Fischer emphasized that the multicultural nature of India would offer her children the opportunity to develop an understanding of various cultural practices, languages, and traditions. This exposure, she says, will encourage adaptability and foster open-mindedness. By embracing diversity, her children will learn to navigate different perspectives with ease.

Multilingualism

India’s rich linguistic diversity is another aspect Fischer appreciates. She explained that her children will not only learn Hindi but will also be exposed to many other languages, further enhancing their cognitive development. Multilingualism, Fischer noted, is an asset that improves communication skills and opens up greater career opportunities in an increasingly globalized world.

Global perspective

Growing up in India will help Fischer’s children develop a broader worldview. The exposure to various global issues and local challenges will enable them to understand different societal norms and deepen their understanding of global citizenship. “They will see the world differently and connect with people from all backgrounds,” she remarked.

Resilience and independence

Finally, Fischer believes that living in a foreign country will instill resilience and independence in her children. From adjusting to a new school system to understanding local customs, the challenges they face will help them build problem-solving skills and a greater sense of self-sufficiency. Fischer feels these experiences will shape her children into confident and self-reliant individuals.

Reactions and reflections

Fischer’s post sparked a wave of responses from social media users. Many followers expressed their admiration for her perspective, with one user commenting, “Your children are very fortunate to live and be raised in the Indian culture.” Others applauded her willingness to embrace diversity and learn from different cultures. Fischer’s reflections on her move to India are part of a broader narrative she has shared in the past. Last year, she posted a video explaining why she left the United States for India. She described her experience in India as one of warmth, community, and joy, attributes she felt were missing in the more individualistic and socially isolated American society.

Despite acknowledging that earning money might be easier in the US, Fischer emphasized that true happiness lies in a sense of belonging, which she believes she has found in India. Additionally, Kristen Fischer’s experience highlights the benefits of raising children in a culturally rich and diverse environment. Her reasons for preferring India over the US reflect a deep appreciation for the country’s values, people, and unique life lessons, an outlook that resonates with many parents seeking a more holistic approach to raising a child.
