the human immune system. Nanobodies are much smaller than monoclonal antibodies, and they are both economical and easy to manufacture. The researchers explained that the fast weight loss in hamsters caused by coronavirus infection was controlled once they were forced to inhale the nanobodies. The study was published in the journal of Science Advances.

Nanobody 21 or PiN-21 was the name given to these nanobodies. In comparison with the placebo group, the researchers claimed that apart from managing the weight loss, they were also able to lower the viral load in the nasal cavity, lungs, and throat. According to an assistant professor from the Department of Cell Biology at Pittsburgh University, inhalation treatment acts directly on the infection location, such as the lungs and throat. These have proven to be quite effective in directly decreasing infection levels.

He went on to say that this would most likely avoid human-to-human spreading and save people from serious infections. The researchers also stated that these nanobodies do not impair people who have been vaccinated. They will boost immunity by working in tandem with vaccines. They also stated that while it does not benefit people who have COVID infection, it can confer immunity to individuals who have not yet been vaccinated.
