Made from 18 carat gold, The Egoist is adorned with 1,658 diamonds and 386 rare rubies imported from Thailand and Myanmar. Nirmal Sethia, an Indian-origin businessman born in Kolkata in 1941, was the mastermind behind this opulent creation. Sethia, who has lived in London for over 50 years, founded the Sethia Tea Estates at the age of 16. His passion for tea led him to acquire an Assam tea plantation, and eventually, he founded Newby Teas, which is now one of the premier luxury tea brands. The Egoist was conceived as a tribute to the finest teas in the world, and Sethia’s aim was to craft something as extraordinary as the tea itself. At the center of this dazzling teapot is a 6.67-carat Thai ruby, which serves as the showstopper of the piece. Its radiant red hue adds a splash of color to the teapot’s overall design, complementing the shimmering diamonds and rubies that decorate the body.
