This MoU aims to strengthen cooperation in healthcare through improved human resource development, modernization of health service delivery, expansion of health information technology, and the joint promotion of health tourism. In the realm of youth and sports, Dr. Khaleel and Puan Hannah Yeoh, Malaysia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, exchanged an MoU focused on fostering collaboration between sports organizations in both countries. The agreement promotes the exchange of sporting events, development of athletic infrastructure, athlete and official training, and joint efforts in anti-doping initiatives and sports medicine.

Tourism also featured prominently in the bilateral discussions. Accordingly, Dr. Mariyam Shabeena Ahmed, High Commissioner of the Maldives to Malaysia, and Tuan Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, signed an MoU to boost tourism cooperation. The agreement emphasizes the promotion of Muslim-friendly tourism, support for ecotourism and community-based tourism projects, and the development of cultural resources as attractions. Complementing these MoUs, a series of EoNs were also exchanged. These include agreements to facilitate cooperation between the Foreign Service Institute of the Maldives and Malaysia’s Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations.

Additionally, an EoN was signed to establish formal bilateral consultations aimed at enhancing political, economic, and social cooperation, as well as coordinated engagement in international forums such as the United Nations. The wide-ranging agreements are poised to elevate the Maldives–Malaysia partnership, opening avenues for shared knowledge, sustainable development, and closer diplomatic ties. As both nations look to the future, these initiatives reflect a shared vision for comprehensive cooperation and regional leadership.
