This weekend will see large amounts of local weather influence from a remote weather system. The first thing it will affect is the warm wind and dust moving across the country. Then, it will create a drastic drop in temperature in the early morning hours on Saturday and bring scattered thunderstorms and dirt after just the daybreak in the western part of the country. The new weather system will consist of an extended low-pressure and gas system that originates from February 13, 2026. Although this low-pressure system will create a new weather system, its effects will change the local forecast because the low-pressure center is located so far away.
When most people arrive at work on Friday, the temperature at the time should be well above average, approximately 7-9°C above average for an afternoon high. After that, Friday evening will bring worsening weather conditions as a result of very hazy conditions caused by high cirrus clouds, blocking the sun and creating very little light. The wind, along with the dust it carries, will bring a fresh focus to Friday night. The southwesterly winds will transport sand from the Sinai Peninsula and Egypt’s deserts to create a massive amount of dust by Friday. In spite of being located far from Jordan, the amount of dust being carried into Jordan will cause very low horizontal visibility in the southern area of Jordan.
There will be a steady transition to overnight temperatures dropping in the northwest wind direction on Friday, but because of the change toward the north, this resulted in rapidly cooling temperatures for both Friday and early Saturday as a result of the ‘northerly’ airflow that gets shuttled into the area due to this wind direction change.
Due to the dust particles in the air being a constituent of the disturbance, if rain occurs, especially in the north and the central part of Jordan, there is a possibility of mud with the rain, as these fine particles will mix with the rain to create mud on the ground and create a very slippery road surface. Light rain could also occur in Aqaba at dawn.
The effects of the disturbance will extend beyond Jordan, as it is expected that regions of northern and central Saudi Arabia will also experience lower temperatures and area-wide light rainfall, while wind gustiness and raised dust are expected in the eastern plains of Saudi Arabia.
There are some important things to remember about dust storms. Dust storms can move hundreds, if not thousands, of kilometers and create mineral dust that can irritate people’s eyes and lungs. Also, after a dust storm, rainfall is typically dirty and may cause greater levels of difficulty seeing. For motorists and those who work outside, the above-mentioned conditions create a recipe for caution.
For those with respiratory issues, local authorities and safety experts recommend limiting outdoor activities on windy, dusty, or wet days. Also, those driving in low-visibility conditions should drive slowly with their headlights on.
The Arabia-weather advisory mentions these same points and specifically warns that in the evenings on Friday, visibility in the southern region of the country will be virtually nil.
On Friday, you will have a great time enjoying the warm weather, but prepare yourself for an abrupt and drastic drop in temperature. Nighttime temperatures will drop rapidly with the passage of wind carrying large amounts of fine dust particles from the south to southwest across the country.
