India (Commonwealth Union)_ Renu Dhariyal’s journey to a Guinness World Records title did not happen overnight. It took more than a decade of patience, discipline and careful hair care. The Indian content creator has now set a new record for the longest hair on a living person (female), with her hair measuring an extraordinary 271.50 cm, or 8 feet 10 inches. Her record was officially verified in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. The achievement places Dhariyal just inches short of the height of Robert Wadlow, the tallest person ever recorded, who measured 272 cm.

Dhariyal began growing her hair in 2015 and says she has not cut it since. Indian customs have long associated long hair with beauty and cultural identity and this influenced her choice. What started out as a personal pledge became an amazing record breaking feat. Growing hair to such an extreme length is only one part of the challenge. Keeping it healthy and manageable requires years of consistent care. Dhariyal has explained that washing and detangling her hair can take hours. She has also preferred natural methods over depending heavily on commercial chemical products.

As part of her routine, Dhariyal makes her own hair oils and shampoos. She has shared her experiences and hair-care methods with followers through her work as a content creator and YouTuber, particularly offering beauty advice to women. Photographs released alongside the record show the extraordinary scale of her hair. In some images, it stretches across the floor behind her, while in others it falls over the edge of a bed. When she needs to keep it under control, Dhariyal gathers it into a long, carefully arranged braid.

Dhariyal’s unusual appearance has also attracted attention wherever she goes. People often stop to look at her hair, while images of her distinctive locks have drawn curiosity online. Her achievement also adds to a growing list of Indian women who have made headlines through Guinness World Records hair titles. Before Dhariyal, Ukraine’s Aliia Nasyrova held the record for the longest hair on a living person (female), with hair measuring 257.33 cm.
The record for the longest hair ever on a woman remains with China’s Xie Qiuping, whose hair measured 18 feet 5.54 inches in 2004. Dhariyal hopes her achievement will bring attention to India and her local community while encouraging others to remain connected to their natural beauty and cultural traditions. After more than ten years of care, her nearly nine-foot-long hair has become more than a striking feature. It is the result of patience, consistency and a commitment maintained year after year.
