Two men were seriously injured after masked attackers broke into a home in Perth and fought with the residents. The incident happened at about 2:25 a.m. on Monday on Currie Street in Warnbro.
Police said four people forced their way into the house through windows that had already been damaged. The attackers were reportedly carrying axes and machetes. A struggle began inside the property as the residents tried to defend themselves.
During the fight, a man in his 40s was stabbed in the chest and abdomen. A second man, in his 50s, suffered a stab wound to his lower back. Both men were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police said they are expected to survive.
Investigators believe the property may have been targeted just two nights earlier. Late on Saturday, several people allegedly tried to break into the same home. Windows were smashed during that attempted attack.
Police believe the damage from that earlier incident may have allowed the attackers to enter the house during Monday’s violence. The suspects escaped after the attack and had not been arrested by Tuesday.
Police believe the incident was targeted. They said there is no indication that the wider public is at risk. However, the violent attack has left people in the area concerned. Police said they understand why local residents may feel unsettled after what happened.
