MANAMA, BAHRAIN — 5 NOVEMBER 2026

What happens when a tiny island nation sets out to attract billions of dollars in international investments, solidify international partnerships, and compete for a greater share in the world’s rapidly expanding business opportunities? This is precisely what the Kingdom of Bahrain seems to be aiming for with its latest investment announcement that was strategically executed to send a clear message to world investors.

Bahrain has announced unprecedented US$22.3 billion worth of strategic announcements, partnerships, and deals after the successful completion of its fourth Gateway Gulf investment forum, thus marking a breakthrough in the Kingdom’s plans to become one of the top business and investment platforms in the Middle East.

Held by the Bahrain Economic Development Board (Bahrain EDB), the event took place on November 1-2, 2026, at the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, with the theme “Reimagining Global Partnerships, Powering Sustainable Growth.”

In a statement released on November 4, 2026, Bahrain EDB reported that it has made more than 110 announcements in many sectors, including financial services, technology, logistics, manufacturing, tourism, aviation, energy, water, health, and education. In addition to that, more than 75 agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed, confirming the world’s considerable interest in Bahrain’s economic plans.

Four major projects with more than US$3.89 billion

Among the most important achievements were four big projects awarded with the Golden Licenses of Bahrain, comprising an investment value of US$3.89 billion.

Two projects relate to the sphere of aviation. First, DHL intends to create its first and only regional Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) at Bahrain International Airport. Moreover, Capital A—the parent company of AirAsia—plans to develop flying-related enterprises in passenger services, cargo services, and aircraft maintenance.

Tourism, as well as technology, has also been receiving considerable attention. Spanish hospitality group Meliá is partnering with Infracorp to create a coastal tourist destination on the Amaj Islands, which will have a 5-star hotel as well as high-end residential complexes. Digital City Bahrain is to be built as an all-encompassing information and communications technologies (ICT), innovation, and education center attracting IT companies and bolstering the digital ecosystem of Bahrain.

Beyond oil: Bahrain’s greater economic ambitions

The drive for investments substantiates a wider change in the economy. The Ministry of Finance and National Economy of Bahrain publicized that non-oil sectors made up 85.8% of the GDP in 2025, which demonstrates the thrust towards diversification of the economy.

Bahrain has a strong interest in attracting businesses needing access to regional markets, considering the overall economy of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is worth more than US$2.38 trillion. Nevertheless, the large (US$22.3 billion) figure is not the amount that was actually invested but rather includes a variety of declarations and arrangements.

The most difficult task for Bahrain is attracting investments and transferring investment declarations into operating businesses, jobs, developed infrastructure, and sustainable economic growth.

There can be no doubt about the point: Bahrain does not attempt only to attract more investors; it aims to become a center of the Gulf’s economy.
