LONDON, UK (CWBN)_ In a letter addressed to former Labour Party Leader, Jeremy Corbyn, the party’s incumbent Chief Whip has asked for a formal apology with regard to the serious breaches of the Equalities Act (2010).
The letter read, “Will you unequivocally, unambiguously and without reservation apologise for your comments made on the morning of 29 October, in particular for saying ‘One anti-Semite is one too many, but the scale of the problem was also dramatically overstated for political reasons by our opponents inside and outside the party, as well as by much of the media’, which caused such distress and pain to Jewish members of the Labour Party and the wider Jewish community?”
The breaches were reported by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) concerning the party’s handling of complaints of anti-Semitic behaviour among party membership, during Corbyn’s tenure as party leader.
In light of the report, the party suspended Corbyn late last month but was reinstated as an MP on the 17th of November per a decision made by the Disputes Panel of the party’s National Executive Committee.
However, Corbyn’s successor, Sir Keir Starmer, resisted the idea of allowing him back into the party on grounds that Corbyn’s hard-left alignment of the party has resulted in consecutive election loses over the past ten years. Corbyn’s suspension was imposed yet again for a period of three months on the 20th this month, leading the deep rifts within Labour.
Many party members have pushed against Starmer’s decision, claiming that Labour policies are pushing to the right, and have threatened a walkout.
