Covid-19 curve rises in Kenya with 14 deaths and 968 new infections

NAIROBI, Kenya (CWBN)_ Kenya being one of the most affected countries in the African continent by the Coronavirus pandemic, has registered 968 new active cases and 14 more deaths as of November 22. According to the report from the Health Ministry, with the current rise in number of positive cases, Kenya has recorded a total of 77,372 active cases and 1,380 deaths so far.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that on testing 6,610 samples since Saturday, 968 new infections were found apart from the 14 deaths. He said with this, a total of 839,614 samples have been tested so far. Among the 968 new infections, 888 cases were Kenyans and 80 were foreigners which includes 584 males and 384 females while the youngest was aged two months old and the oldest aged 91.

The health ministry came up with the state-wise infection data that reported Nairobi recording 421 cases; Mombasa recording 91cases; Kilifi 88 new cases; Busia 73 new cases; Kiambu 54 new cases; Kajiado 30; Nakuru 22; and Uasin Gishu 21 cases. Then Machakos registered 17 new cases; Murang’a and Nyeri recorded 16 cases each; Bungoma had 14 cases; Kirinyaga 13 cases; Marsabit had eight cases; and Makueni, Kisumu, Turkana, Tharaka Nithi and Meru recorded 11 cases each. Moreover, the number of new infections in Laikipia and Narok counties were four new cases each; the infection cases in Kisii, Homa Bay, Elgeyo Marakwet and Mandera recorded three cases each; Nandi and Kwale had two cases each; and Kericho, Garissa, Wajir, Nyandarua and Trans Nzoia recorded one case each.

The health ministry also reported on the current status of the infected people and the treatments given to them. According to the report, 62 cases were admitted in the ICU, 36 cases were given ventilatory support for survival and 26 cases were provided with oxygen support. The report said a total of 1,131 patients were in hospital and 7,023 patients were given home-based treatments. An additional number of 74 cases are admitted in general wards and 74 cases are given oxygen supply separately and two cases are admitted in high dependency units.

Further, the health ministry reported that 155 had recovered from infection, of which 100 returned home and 45 cases still in hospital, which raises the recovery count to 51,497 cases.
