Chennai, India (CWBN)_ The veteran actor and superstar of Tamil cinema Rajinikanth celebrates his 70th birthday today. The occasion is marked special this year as the actor is yet to launch his new political party on December 31. The Tamil actor and striving actor-turned politician Rajinikanth celebrated his birthday, making it a historical time not just for the movie star, but also for Tamil Nadu and Indian national politics as he recently confirmed his political entry in the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections in 2021.
Rajinikanth declared last week that he will start his long-awaited political party in January, five months ahead of the 2021 Tamil Nadu election. The actor’s political entry this year brings great sensation to the his 70th birthday. Today morning, his fans and followers gathered, carrying banners and wearing T-shirts printed with his photos, outside his residence in Chennai to wish the actor on his birthday. As a tradition, a number of members affiliated with the Rajini Makkal Manram, an association for the star’s fans, participated in charity work to mark the special day. The actor is well-known for his charity work in Tamil Nadu, especially with orphanages and hospitals.
To make it a big day for Rajinikanth, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished him in a tweet early this morning. His tweet read, “Dear @rajinikanth Ji, wishing you a Happy Birthday! May you lead a long and healthy life.”
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister and AIADMK’s Chief O Panneerselvam also wished Rajinikanth with a tweet in Tamil. He had accepted the announcement by Rajinikanth last week of his political entry and new party and had also hoped for a partnership.
On Friday, the very famous musician and composer A R Rahman, who is also a fan of Rajinikanth and who has worked in many of Rajinikanth’s movies, on behalf of the legendary actor’s followers, published a common display picture marking the occasion on Twitter.
He wrote, “Extremely privileged to release superstar @Rajinikanth’s 70th Birthday CDP on behalf of his fans.
Wishing you a great birthday and good health!”

Apart from the political leaders, the prominent actors and celebrities of the country as well as the fan followers also wished Rajinikanth on his birthday.
The two rivaling political parties of Tamil Nadu are AIADMK and DMK. With Rajinikanth’s recent venture, the two political parties are now keen on every move of the actor. The actor’s last week announcement on following a “spiritual secular politics” with no caste or religion has garnered much attention in the state and has become a topic of discussion by the media.
