London, UK (CWBN)_ While Brexit negotiations enter into a defining 48 hour period, today, PM Boris Johnson’s is expected to warn European Commission President Ursula van der Leyen concerning the future of negotiations and the trade deal, should the EU fail to compromise.

Just yesterday (17th Dec), having arrived in Bolton, Johnson had insisted that EU leadership ought to “see sense” by setting aside their demands for fishing access, which he claimed that that “no sensible government” would accept. He also added that the UK has made “a lot” of compromises as it is.

Meanwhile, negotiations due to be carried out today will primarily focus on how long it would take for arrangements for fishing access to be phased in, however, both sides remain at loggerheads over the fishing quotas and range of access to British waters.

Addressing the European Parliament, Michel Barnier, Head of Task Force for Relations with the United Kingdom, said that negotiations have reached “the moment of truth”. Barnier added that “We have very little time remaining, just a few hours, to work through these negotiations in a useful fashion if we want this agreement to enter into force on the 1st of Januaray.

Although Barnier admitted there is a likelihood of a deal, he claimed that the “path was very narrow”.
