Indian American climate expert named for top position at NOAA

California, USA (CU)_ President Joe Biden has stated his intention to name Jainey Bavishi, a notable Indian American climate change expert, to a high leadership designation at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). If the Senate confirms her appointment, she will work at the Department of Commerce as the Assistant Secretary for Oceans and Atmosphere, reporting to NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad, an ocean scientist.

Bavishi’s appointment at an agency tasked with environmental forecasting and monitoring, as well as preserving the nation’s coasts, oceans, and fisheries, aligns with the Biden-Harris administration’s policies on combating climate change as a primary priority.
