South Africa manufactures its first Covid 19 test kit

Johannesburg, South Africa (CU)_ Blade Nzimande, the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, announced that South Africa has begun producing rapid Covid-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test kits in an attempt to reduce reliance on imports and boost the country’s competitiveness. According to a statement released by the ministry, CapeBio, a domestic biotechnology business, has begun making PCR test kits with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
