Britain could gain ‘first-mover’ advantage but there are risks associated with India trade deal

LONDON (CU)_Following Britain’s departure from the European Union a couple of years ago, trade talks with Washington have been slow in progress. Therefore, London is now looking to pivot towards trade with Asia, with significant focus on India. The South Asian nation is traditionally considered one of the toughest markets to break into, although it is projected to become the world’s largest importer by 2050. As part of Britain’s efforts to tap into this lucrative market, international trade secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan opened talks with India’s commerce and industry minister, Piyush Goyal, earlier this month.
