Vijayawada Government General Hospital inaugurates a cardiothoracic unit

Vijayawada, India (CU)_ J Nivas, Krishna District Collector, stated that the State government is enhancing infrastructure in government hospitals as part of the Nadu-Nedu initiative. Hence, government hospitals would get medical services comparable to those provided by private hospitals. Nivas and City Central MLA Malladi Vishnu together launched the Vijayawada Government General Hospital’s cardiothoracic wing. Further, he also launched eight modular surgery theaters and a 30-bed ward in the hospital.

While delivering his speech at the inauguration, the Collector stated that patients mostly travel to Guntur and Hyderabad for heart operations owing to the insufficient facilities at GGH. He stated that with the opening of the Cardiothoracic wing, heart patients may now come to the GGH for cardiac surgery. He stated that preparations are ongoing for the GGH’s first heart operation scheduled on March 4.

The opening ceremony was attended by Joint Collector L Siva Sankar, Sub-Collector GS Praveen Chand, Dr A Hanumantha Rao, Deputy Superintendent of the hospital Dr Surya Sri, and other physicians and hospital personnels. According to MLA Malladi Vishnu, the launch of the new heart surgery theater will support cardiac patients. He also stated that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is prioritizing the advancement of hospitals in the state to ensure that residents have access to medical care.

According to Dr Y Kiran Kumar, the superintendent of the hospital, the new cardiac unit is equipped with preoperative and postoperative beds. He said that cardiac services were introduced in the super speciality block more than a year ago and that over 300 angiography tests are performed each month. According to him, a fully functional Cardiac unit has been established in the super speciality block. He said that the institution also offers nephrology and neurology treatments.
