Technical issues causing airline delays

CANADA – Sunwing Airlines says a technical issue is causing delays for a number of its flights, including at least four departing from Montreal’s Trudeau airport.

The airline said earlier this week around mid-day that its “systems provider is experiencing a network-wide system issue which has impacted check-in and boarding, resulting in ongoing flight delays for a number of Sunwing flights.” The issue is affecting several other carriers globally as well.

The company made a statement via their official Twitter that it is “working to have the issue resolved as soon as possible,” but had no firm timeline to relay.

Customers travelling over the course of the next day are urged “to check their flight status before heading to the airport,” Sunwing added.

At least two Sunwing flights out of Mexico that were scheduled to land in Montreal on Sunday night were revised to Monday night. Another flight, out of Punta Cana, that was scheduled to land at Trudeau airport at suppertime Monday was rescheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Other Montreal arrivals affected by delays are flying out of Cayo Coco and Cancun. These delays caused mayhem with connecting flight schedules.

On Twitter, a number of travellers expressed their frustration, with some saying they are “stranded in Mexico.” Many passengers have found their returns to Canada from Cuba, Dominican Republic and Aruba also delayed by the glitch.

One tweeted that they had been returned to their hotel from an unspecified Caribbean airport, but not provided with a room, requiring them to “stand beside the bus and wait.”

Another said: “Hey @SunwingVacay our flight is delayed by 9 hours. Your phone number on the app doesn’t work, we haven’t gotten any emails and there’s no rep on-site. Are we just going to be taken to the airport 9 hours early?”
