Singapore (CU)_ A reception commemorating Singapore’s National Day, which is observed annually on August 9, was hosted at the Singapore High Commission on August 17, Wednesday evening, following a three-year break owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. According to Vanu Gopala Menon, the high commissioner of Singapore to Malaysia, the pandemic has reaffirmed Singapore and Malaysia’s interdependence during difficult times.

Recalling the challenges and conflicts the two neighboring nations underwent during the pandemic, he indicated that Singapore’s bond with Malaysia is based on strong links between individuals. While addressing the reception hosted at the Shangri-la Hotel, Vanu Gopala Menon said, “Today, we would like to pay tribute not just to what we have missed, but also to what we have achieved and hope to achieve in our bilateral relationship”. He added, “People make the relationship between our two countries truly special. On this National day, wishing our ties will continue to grow deeper and stronger with each successive generation of Singaporeans and Malaysians”.
