Three Indian American doctors honored with Young Urologist Award!

USA (Commonwealth Union)_ Three Indian American urologists have been recognized for their commitment towards advancing the development of young urologists by the American Urological Association, which honored them with the Young Urologist of the Year Award. According to the statement from AUA, three out of the eight winners have Indian links. The Indian-origin winners are Rena Malik from the University of Maryland in the Mid-Atlantic Section; Nitya Abraham from Albert Einstein Medical College in the New York Section; and Sarah Vij from the Cleveland Clinic in the North Central Section.

Dr. Rena Malik has been an innovative and active young urologist in the Mid-Atlantic Section since completing her fellowship. She has served as the head of the Section’s Resident’s Day in 2022 and is also an active member of the MAAUA Awards Committee. Dr. Malik’s work on urinary biomarkers that predict catheter-related urinary tract infections has earned her the William D. Steers Award.

In addition, she received the Urology Care Foundation 2021 Research Scholar Award, was awarded “Top Social Media Presence” by Urology Practice Journal in 2022, and also works on the editorial boards of Urology Practice Journal and Journal of Urology. With her clinical expertise in female pelvic medicine, reconstruction, and voiding dysfunction, Dr. Malik has a promising regional and national presence in FPMRS and urology and also has more than 66 peer reviewed publications. Moreover, she is a perfect role model for young and ambitious urologists and a deserving recipient of the MA-AUA Young Urologist of the Year Award.
