Embarking on a week-long journey, the exploration began in Kandapola, nestled in the central province. The Heritance Tea Factory, a former tea factory turned five-star hotel, stood 2,000 meters above sea level, surrounded by tea fields tended by the local community. Welcomed with a tea ceremony, the enchanting scenery from our fourth-floor room showcased the lush countryside.
Dinner featured a six-course feast, including traditional Sri Lankan curry dishes, highlighting the local flavors. The hotel’s commitment to community integration allowed guests to experience tea picking and tasting—an educational activity led by a knowledgeable guide, Jayanthi, who shared insights into the industry’s nuances.
Further exploration included a village walk guided by Motosamy, offering glimpses of local life. An essential excursion, the Ella Tour, led to the town of Ella, known for its vibrant atmosphere and scenic beauty. Visiting Ravana Waterfalls and Little Adam’s Peak provided a refreshing interlude, complemented by a visit to the iconic Nine Arch Bridge.
The culinary journey reached its pinnacle with a fine-dining experience at TCK 6685, a converted rail carriage, featuring exquisite courses and paired wines. Transitioning to the south coast, a six-hour drive led to Heritance Ahungalla, a five-star beachfront resort, offering relaxation by infinity pools and captivating beach walks. The resort’s all-inclusive offerings, including buffet breakfasts, dinners, and a la carte lunches, created a haven for unwinding. A visit to the Sea Turtles Conservation Project provided insights into local wildlife preservation. Amid monkey and fruit bat sightings, the four-night stay passed swiftly, concluding a remarkable week in Sri Lanka, leaving an indelible mark and eager anticipation for a return.
