As Patricia Scotland’s tenure as the Commonwealth Secretary-General draws to a close, it is fitting to reflect on her extraordinary contributions to the youth, women empowerment, small island vulnerable states, climate resilience, education, information technology, poverty eradication of the Commonwealth member states.

Her leadership has left an indelible mark on an entire generation, especially empowering young people and fostering a brighter future across 56 nations.

Throughout her time in office, Patricia Scotland has been a tireless advocate for the youth, ensuring that their voices were heard at the highest levels of decision-making. Under her guidance, the Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF) flourished, offering young people opportunities to develop leadership skills, access education, and participate in civic life.

Her commitment to addressing critical issues such as climate change, education, and unemployment has particularly resonated with the youth. By prioritizing these challenges, she not only acknowledged their concerns but also inspired them to become active agents of change in their communities.

During her tenure, the Commonwealth strengthened its flagship initiatives, including the Commonwealth Youth Awards and the Commonwealth Youth Forum. These platforms celebrated young achievers, nurtured innovative ideas, and connected young leaders from diverse backgrounds, fostering collaboration and mutual understanding.

During her engagements, she often highlighted the fact that the youth represent 60% of the Commonwealth who are under 30, sharing common problems and aspirations, advocating the need for greater engagements.

Her work has not only addressed immediate challenges but has also laid the foundation for a sustainable and inclusive future.

As we bid farewell to Patricia Scotland as Secretary-General we do so with immense gratitude. Her legacy will continue to inspire young people to dream big, work hard, and contribute meaningfully to their communities and beyond.

Thank you, Patricia Scotland, for your remarkable service. The Commonwealth’s and her youth are forever in your debt.
