Jetstar Asia has marked a significant milestone as it inaugurates its first direct flight between Singapore and Sri Lanka, as the first low-cost airline to operate on this route. The maiden flight, 3K333, departed from Singapore’s Changi Airport, officially connecting the Lion City to Sri Lanka’s vibrant capital and opening new avenues for affordable travel in the region.
With five return flights per week operated by Jetstar’s Airbus A320 fleet, travelers now have greater flexibility with options for morning and evening departures. This new route introduces more than 90,000 low-fare seats annually, providing Singaporeans and regional travelers access to Sri Lanka’s stunning landscapes, rich culture, and renowned hospitality. The connection is also expected to boost inbound tourism and business traffic to Singapore, enhancing the region’s economic and cultural ties.
Jetstar Asia’s CEO, John Simeone, expressed excitement over the airline’s expansion into Sri Lanka, emphasizing the country’s appeal as a unique destination.
The launch aligns with the growing demand for budget-friendly travel between Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia, including connections to markets in Australia. Travelers flying from Colombo can also leverage Singapore as a gateway to other global destinations via Changi Airport’s extensive network.
Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Colombo warmly welcomed the Jetstar Asia flight, carrying 179 passengers. Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka (Private) Limited (AASL) ceremoniously greeted the aircraft with a water cannon salute. The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau sponsored a traditional Kandyan dance performance to welcome the passengers, and the Sri Lanka Tea Board presented them with tea gift packs.

Changi Airport Group also highlighted the benefits of the new service, with Lim Ching Kiat, Executive Vice President for Air Hub & Cargo Development, noting that the route offers travelers greater options while showcasing the beauty of Sri Lanka.
Lin emphasized that the launch expands Jetstar Asia’s network while offering a more convenient connection for travelers from Singapore to explore Sri Lanka’s attractions, also pointing out that Sri Lankan travelers can advantage of the route to visit Singapore or use Changi Airport as a hub to access destinations across the Asia-Pacific region.
Sri Lanka Tourism Chairman, Buddhika Hewawasam, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the timing of the new service as Sri Lanka targets three million tourists by the end of next year.
With the addition of the Singapore-Colombo route, Jetstar Asia has reinforced its role as a key player in promoting tourism and trade across Southeast Asia.
