A new initiative to provide health insurance to Tanzania farmers

-

the cooperative bank, in collaboration with CRDB Bank and the NHIF, would provide specific health insurance packages to coffee growers to guarantee that they are in perfect health condition so that they can successfully engage in production.

According to Mr Ng’urah, the package will be offered in the form of a loan that will be paid back following the harvesting season. While speaking to leaders of Agricultural Marketing Co-operative Societies (AMCOS) from Hai, Rombo, Siha, and Moshi districts, he stated, “Our farmers need to be healthy throughout the year if we are to guarantee ourselves bumper harvests”.

Mr Ngu’rah said that the farmers would have to pay 76,800 to service the debt following each harvest season. According to a KCBL official, the effort would result in farmers producing more crops in each season. He also mentioned that the cooperative bank has signed a deal to provide coffee producers with seedlings for the upcoming rainy season.

According to the General Manager of the KCBL, the first co-operative bank of the nation has also collaborated with the CRDB Bank Limited to allow its clients to access the financial services of the bank through the agents of CRDB Bank Limited throughout the country. He detailed, “Our clients will also be provided with a KCBL Visa Card which will enable them access services at the KCBL’s Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), CRDB Bank Limited and all in CRDB Bank Limited’s agents countrywide”.

In the meantime, the KCBL made a 35 million profit in the second quarter of this year, which concluded in March. When compared with the first quarter, where the Cooperative bank earned 23 million, this is a 52 percent gain. He credited the achievement to the customers’ faith in the first cooperative bank of the country. He added, “This has been a comfort to our customers who have in the recent past endured turbulent times when the bank had a spell of loses”.
