a retractable light-up blade that extends out from the hilt. Although Disney has not provided any insight on how the saber works, however, some clever minds believe that the new blade retracts and extends a sheet of plastic and LED lights, almost like a modified, motorized tape measure.
There is no word on the price yet, but given that Disney’s existing lightsabers already cost $200 each, the new sabres are not expected to be cheap. The company said the ‘real’ lightsabers will be a part of its upcoming Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser immersive hotel, which will be taking the original premise of Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge park and expand it to an interactive two-night Star Wars adventure.
The company also revealed that the new sabers are still a work in progress by Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development. They are expected to be ready for guests to buy when the Galactic Starcruiser hotel experience launches next year.
