Texas, USA (CU)_ Vinod Khosla, an Indian-American billionaire business magnet and co-founder of Sun Microsystems, has promised to donate USD 10 million to provide medical oxygen supply to Indian hospitals. This initiative is in addition to the 66-year-old businessman’s efforts to raise money for Indian hospitals to purchase oxygen due to an increase in COVID cases in the nation.

Mr Khosla announced his contribution in a tweet. He said, “The Khosla Family is adding USD 10 million to @GiveIndia to it’s previous commitment as a match and hoping others will join in this urgent need”.

Vinod Khosla took to Twitter to express the urgency of saving lives, stating that any more delay would result in more deaths. He also detailed the ongoing situation in India and the country’s urgent requirement of massive medical supplies. On announcing his huge donation, he also motivated others to contribute to India’s fight against COVID 19.

Mr Khosla tweeted, “For @GiveIndia this isn’t enough. They’ve received requests for 20,000 oxygen concentrators, 15,000 cylinders, 500 ICU beds, 100 ventilators, 10,000-beds COVID centers with requests coming from non-profits & hospitals all across India every day. We need to do a lot more urgently”.

Last week, Goldman Sachs, the global financial services giant, reported an additional $10 million to fund India’s battle against the second wave of COVID-19 infections and deaths. In view of the same cause, the other multinational companies such as Google, Apple, Microsoft, and Blackstone have also pledged support to India.

With over 3,00,000 new coronavirus cases registered on a daily basis and hospitals in many states running out of medical oxygen and beds, India is dealing with a fatal second wave of the pandemic.
