According to the Department, as one of Rwanda’s largest and most long-standing bilateral development partners, the United Kingdom has also assisted the nation in developing the significant economic and social progress Rwanda has achieved since the genocide twenty-seven years ago, when about 800,000 people were slaughtered by ethnic Hutu extremists. During his visit, Lord Ahmad will lay a wreath at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, in memory of those who died in the cold-blooded massacre.
The Minister will also see first-hand the Rwanda’s preparations for a safe and successful CHOGM. Moreover, he will meet with government officials of Rwanda, in order to discuss matters of mutual interest, particularly in relation to the Commonwealth.
