Adults are having a party with the environment and children are stuck with cleaning it up

(CU)_The international community is just a month away from the much-anticipated UN climate summit COP26, as study after study continue to stress one simple truth, if global climate policies remained unchanged humans are going to be facing a crisis worse than COVID-19.

While many governments and businesses have now begun to accelerate their efforts to slash carbon emissions and improve environmental sustainability, we have also seen younger generations stepping in to join this global effort, calling on the older generation to do their bit to minimise climate change. However, their efforts did not always receive a warm welcome, particularly from policy makers and industrial leaders. 

Back in 2019, youth climate activist Greta Thunberg delivered an impassioned speech to the United Nations Climate Action Summit, which was ridiculed by the US President at the time Donald Trump who called Thunberg “a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future”. However, the American leader may not have been entirely accurate, since neither Thunberg nor anyone belonging to younger generations have “a bright and wonderful future”, as adults continue to fail to treat the climate crisis with the required level of urgency.
