African Persons of the Year 2023 announced

Africa (Commonwealth) _ The African Leadership Magazine (ALM) is happy to reveal a shortlist of nominees for the 12th African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year 2023, following a call for nominations that concluded recently and garnered responses from Africans throughout the continent and in Diaspora.

As a result, public voting is now open, and the general public is thus encouraged to visit the ALM website to vote for their preferred nominees in the ALM Persons of the Year (POTY) Awards 2023 polls, which end on 14 December 2023, at midnight (CAT).

The ALM Persons of the Year Awards are Africa’s foremost vote-based commendation, designated yearly for the outstanding Africans who are supporting the continent’s growth and positively changing Africa’s perceived bad image. It includes a two-step selection procedure that allows Africans from all over the world to participate in the process of picking winners for the many categories of the African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Awards.

The call for nominations kicks off a series of events culminating in the assembly of Africa’s greatest leaders from all walks of life; the second phase is a call for online voting for the candidates.

The nominees for the ALM Persons of the Year Awards 2023 are leaders from various spheres of society who have demonstrated resilience, ingenuity, and resourcefulness in the year in scrutinize and beyond, with outstanding success and  dedication to leveraging untapped potentials, applying knowledge, skills, and locally produced inventive solutions to the continent’s growth challenges, as well as contributing to the development of stronger African economies, and creating more resilient African economies.

The winners of the ALM Persons of the Year prizes for the year 2023 will be announced and invited to a formal presentation of the prizes and other instruments of honor during the ALM Persons of the Year Awards Ceremony 2024, which will be held in 2024 which is set to take place on February 22 – 23, 2024 at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, a country that has a crucial position as the African Union’s (AU) headquarters. The event will be co-hosted by the Ethiopian Customs Commission (ECC) and will have the topic “Building Resilient African Economies.”

The African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year (POTY) awards presentation ceremony has been held annually for the past 12 years, bringing together policymakers, private sector leaders, civil society leaders, thought leaders, and all stakeholders from across Africa and the rest of the world to discuss issues affecting Africa’s socioeconomic growth and development. The event has also evolved into a distinguished venue for honoring people-centered leadership and Africans pursuing a pan-African agenda in their respective fields of endeavor.

The African Leadership Magazine is the official journal of the African Leadership Organization (UK) Limited, which has dedicated the last 16 years to promoting impactful leadership on the continent and African opportunities around the world through a network of quality Afro-positive content, Africa facilitation of trade and entry into the market solutions, Afro-centric populations and business networking platforms, as well as public sector training and consulting.

The ALM POTY 2024 nominations are divided into ten categories.

The African of the year

This award is given to an African whose acts in the previous year had a positive influence on the continent, helped change their immediate society, and whose work encourages Afro-positivism across the world. Kenyan and Zambian presidents are also among the nominees. 

Female African Leader of the Year

This award is given to an African woman who has conquered the obstacles and risen beyond the continent’s patriarchal structures to positively impact the continent or motivate women to strive for greatness in many disciplines. Among the nominees is Kenyan Chief Justice Martha Karambu Koome.

There are other nominations for another eight categories.  They are:  African Educationist of the Year, African Political Leader of the Year, African Peace and Security Leader of the Year, African Industrialist of the Year, African Philanthropist of the Year, and Young African Leader of the Year, African Public Sector Leader of the Year and African Public Health Leader of the Year.
