Diaspora (Commonwealth Union) _ A 24-year-old Indian student, Gurvinder Nath, who worked as a food delivery partner in Canada, was killed in a violent carjacking incident while delivering pizza in Mississauga, Ontario. The incident occurred on July 9, where unidentified suspects confronted Nath and attempted to steal his vehicle after placing a food order as a means of luring him to a specific area. Nath was violently assaulted, and the suspects robbed him of his vehicle before fleeing the scene.

On July 14, despite the efforts of multiple witnesses who came to his aid and called for help, Gurvinder Nath suffered critical injuries and tragically passed away at a trauma center. The Consul General of India in Toronto, Siddhartha Nath, offered his condolences to Gurvinder Nath’s grieving family, friends, and the broader community. The consulate has reached out to the family to provide support during this difficult time.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities believe that Gurvinder Nath was an innocent victim with no apparent connection to his attackers. His vehicle was found abandoned a few kilometres away from the crime scene, and investigators are diligently gathering evidence to bring those responsible for the tragic incident to justice. As the community mourns the loss of Gurvinder Nath, the hope is that swift action will be taken to hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.

Nath’s body will be repatriated to India on July 27 with the assistance of the Consulate General of India in Toronto. A candlelight vigil was held for Gurvinder Nath, attended by more than 200 people who expressed their grief and solidarity with his family. Nath had dreams of opening his own business and came to Canada from India in 2021 to pursue his studies. His tragic death has shaken the community, sparking calls for an end to senseless and merciless crimes.
