Hyderabad, India (CU)_ A top official stated on Tuesday that under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package, anganwadi staff and assistants engaging in Covid-19-related activities would henceforth be provided a 50 lakh insurance cover. According to a women and child development ministry official, the initiative would include anganwadi staff and assistants participating in duties such as Covid-19 awareness and monitoring efforts and doorstep delivery of ration goods.
The official said, “They (anganwadi workers and helpers) are now covered under the insurance cover of ₹50 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package for the entire period of the pandemic beginning March 11, 2020”. He added, “The communication has been given to the states. It is incumbent upon them to operationalise it. We are ensuring that under the package, the support is given to the states”.
