Chennai, India (CU)_ Apollo Hospitals launched the immunization campaign for children aged between 15 to 18 years on Monday. This initiative comes after the Prime Minister’s declaration that the Covid immunization program will be expanded to cover children over the age of 15 years. According to Dr Prathap C Reddy, Chairman of the Apollo Hospitals Group, the campaign marks a major step forward in the Covid war.

Dr. Reddy said, “Today is indeed an important milestone in our battle against Covid-19. With the launch of vaccinations for children between 15-18 years, we have made a beginning in protecting our future and the future of the country”. He added, This is an age group that needs to be protected against Covid and vaccination will help in mitigating the severity and preventing complications of Covid in children. Timely vaccination will also help in their return to normal life of not just education in the classroom but also sports and other cultural activities necessary for all-round development.”

Since January 2021, Apollo Hospitals has been in the forefront of supporting the government’s immunization campaign. Apollo Hospitals initiated the Paediatric Covid immunization drive for 15-18-year-old teens in response to a government order. The vaccine to be delivered would be Covaxin, which has been granted emergency use permission by the DCGI for use in children. Covaxin is given in two doses with a time gap of 28 days.

Children in the qualifying age groups and categories can reserve vaccination time slots in the Apollo 24/7 or register online using their school ID card or Aadhaar card through the Co-WIN App or the Co-WIN website (https://www.cowin.gov.in). For registration, children should provide their Aadhaar card or any other national identity card, or their school ID cards.
