Apple Wallet now accepts Australian health insurance cards

-

Canberra, Australia (CU)_ Clients of many leading Australian health insurers may now add a digital membership card to their Apple Wallet and use it to file a claim without contacting them. According to a statement from NAB, which controls the health sector claims and payments service or HICAPS, customers may now submit a health insurance claim by just holding their iPhone or Apple Watch close to any HICAPS terminal in Australia, delivering a real digital wallet experience. The bank said, “Customers can also pay for gap payments simply and securely using Apple Pay”.

In general offices and other healthcare service providers, HICAPS terminals are widely employed. Medibank, Bupa, nib, and GU Health customers can include a digital copy of their membership card in their Apple Wallet. Customers who use their iPhones or Apple Watches to make health insurance claims or gap payments at HICAPS terminals will quickly be notified in their health fund app.

According to Tania Motton, NAB executive for business everyday banking, customers are preferring digital solutions over traditional means. This is causing a significant transition in how businesses accept payments. Motton’s statement said, “Claims made using this method help reduce time spent on manual processing for practitioners due to forgotten plastic cards, while putting money back in customers’ bank accounts quicker”.

According to the bank, Apple does not derive any private health information due to the secured encoded link between the smart device and the HICAPS terminal. The initiative as well as the addition of digital healthcare cards to Apple Wallet was appreciated by the Regional Apple executives.
