(CU)_In his closing remarks at the UN climate summit, British cabinet minister and COP26 President Alok Sharma, conveyed his apologies to everyone present, as he fought back tears, saying he was “deeply sorry” that the necessary global commitments to combat climate change were not secured at the event. “May I just say to all delegates I apologize for the way this process has unfolded,” he said. “I understand the deep disappointment.” As the much anticipated Conference of the Parties wrapped up in Glasgow, Australia remained the global laggard in tackling the ongoing climate crisis, in the eyes of many vulnerable nations, climate experts and environmental campaigners.
