Civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia made the commitment to Shiv Sena Member of Parliament (MP) Priyanka Chaturvedi to provide medical benefits to the retired officials. Earlier on October 20, Priyanka Chaturvedi had written to the minister requesting medical insurance for retired Air India personnel, including pilots, cabin crew, engineers, catering staff and others.

According to the Sena MP’s letter, retired officials of Air India required medical benefits. She wrote, “Many retired employees, who had devoted years of their lives to Air India are left without any concrete medical support. It saddens me to know that the retired employees do not have insurance benefits. With the divestment of Air India, this issue becomes more acute”.

On November 12, Scindia responded to the MP by saying that the administration is focused on giving medical benefits to the retired personnels of Air India. He said, “I have had the matter examined. I would like to inform you that the government is fully aware and committed to providing medical facilities to the retired employees of Air India. Modalities for the same are being worked out in consultation with the ministry of health and family welfare”. Chaturvedi responded to the minister’s comments by tweeting that she was heartened and pleased to learn that the civil aviation and health ministries are trying to fix this.
