Kabul, Afghanistan (CWBN)_ Chaos reigned in Kabul yet again when a bomb was detonated near a private sector tutoring centre. Authorities reported that the bomber had intended to enter the institute’s premises, was deterred when he was recognised by a security guard, however, hence elected to detonate in the streets as students were leaving after their classes.

Thirty people were killed in the incident, including a number of students and the security guard were killed in the bombing, while over fifty others were wounded. Eye witnesses stated that the bomber was wearing a military uniform.

Although the majority of students killed in the incident were from the Bamiyan, Dakikundi, Ghazni and Ghor regions, most of them were laid to rest in a cemetery west of Kabul.

Figures from both the local and international spheres have condemned the attack.

Meanwhile, as open conflict rages in Helmand Province, threatening the provincial capital of Lashkar Gah and the on going peace talks in Doha, Qatar, Leader of the Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin (HIG), a former militant group turned political party, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, stated that the allegations that Pakistani personnel were fighting in alongside the Taliban were untrue. Hekmatyar faced considerable backlash following these comments.

Hekmatyar has contunously maintained this stance over the years, despite the Afghan Government identifying several Pakistani militants among those killed in Helmand. Moreover, it is alleged that Hekmatyar maintains strong ties with the Pakistani Government since commencing Anti-Soviet Operations earlier in militant career.
