Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (CU)_ Malaysia lifted its border controls on April 1, 2022, essentially abolishing all travel restrictions into the nation. On account of this move, Tourism Malaysia conducted its maiden roadshow in the two major cities of Bangladesh from 2nd to the 7th of June 2022, following a two-year gap. The tour began in Dhaka, and then went on to Chattrogram. The expedition was led by Mr. Syed Yahya Syed Othman, Senior Director of the Strategic Planning Division of Tourism Malaysia, along with five travel agents and two health sector organizations from Malaysia’s tourism fraternity.

Bangladesh is one of Malaysia’s major market sources in 2019, with 179,000 travelers accounting for over 19.3% of the total arrivals. In addition to encouraging Bangladeshis to visit Malaysia, the roadshow also intended to give a platform for the industry community to recover and bring the tourism industry back to its previous glory. Mr. Syed Yahya Syed Othman expressed delight over the move. He said, “This is an excellent time to return to Bangladesh, and the timing of this roadshow is ideal. The resumption of scheduled international flights from Bangladesh coincides with Malaysia’s reopening of its international borders”.

Mr. Syed Yahya added, “We are thrilled and excited to welcome Bangladeshi tourists back on exciting, new value-driven, and action-packed itineraries to experience Malaysia’s best and latest. After two years, there is still so much to discover, especially with the newly opened outdoor theme park, Genting SkyWorld, the refurbished Sunway Resort in Kuala Lumpur, and a magnificent new attraction, the Merdeka 118, the world’s second-tallest building. I am confident that these new attractions, in addition to our beautiful beaches, exhilarating mountains and jungles, and a plethora of activities, will make your trip memorable”.

Malaysia opened its borders on 1 April 2022. The country will no longer require fully-vaccinated overseas visitors to undergo quarantine in order to enter the country. The visitors including children younger than 17 who are fully immunized against COVID-19 are no longer required to complete pre-departure and on-arrival COVID-19 testing. In addition, Malaysia now provides more than 3910 weekly tickets between Dhaka and Malaysia via Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air, and AirAsia.
