UK (Commonwealth Union)_ Jeevun Sandher, the newly elected Labour MP for Loughborough, has embarked on a mission to rejuvenate public confidence in politics while fortifying the Labour Party’s connection with India. Sandher’s election victory in the recent UK general elections represents not only a personal achievement but also a significant opportunity to bridge cultural and economic ties between the UK and India. Sandher’s election to Parliament is particularly notable given Loughborough’s status as a bellwether constituency, reflecting broader political trends. He stated, “For the Labour Party and the incoming Labour government, this is a natural connection”. He added, “India is the world’s largest democracy, and there’s a trade deal in progress. We aim to achieve significant mutual benefits for both nations.” Sandher was born in Luton to Indian-origin parents who migrated from Punjab. However, he has maintained a strong personal and professional connection with India. His frequent visits to the country and active involvement with Labour Indians, a group dedicated to representing the interests of Indian diaspora in the UK, reflect his deep-rooted ties to his heritage.

Furthermore, Sandher highlighted that the insights gained from Labour Indians have been instrumental in shaping both his personal and political perspectives. He emphasized the importance of investing in clean energy to drive green prosperity in Loughborough. Sandher explained, “As an economist, my priority is to get more money in people’s pockets by investing in clean energy and bringing green prosperity to Loughborough”. He also noted that improving the NHS to reduce waiting lists, hiring more police officers, and creating youth hubs are essential to making a real difference.
The Labour Party’s recent historic victory, which ended a 14-year Conservative stronghold, has generated considerable optimism. However, Sandher remains aware of the substantial challenges ahead. He said, “We are not just in politics to make promises but to deliver results. This is a time for tangible action.
