Brusselicious…

-

BRUSSELS – In April 2024, when Singapore Airlines flies direct to Brussels, foodie travellers can expect good eats, much like in Singapore.

Seriously, Brusselicious and Sproutly Brussels are puns that have been used by the tourism folks to promote their city.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced on Tuesday that the airline will start a direct service to fly non-stop between Singapore and Brussels from 2024.  Tickets will begin to be released on sale from Wednesday.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) will launch non-stop flights between Singapore and Brussels, the capital of Belgium, from 5th April 2024, returning to the city after more than 20 years.

Brussels is apart from being the capital of Belgium, also home to the European Union (EU) and is dubbed as the EU’s capital city. It is the most densely populated city in Belgium with the highest gross domestic product (GDP) per capita.   The unique geographical location of Brussels makes it an ideal hub for rail, road, and air traffic, earning the city the moniker The Crossroads of Europe.

Although Qatar and Emirates fly from Brussels Airport to the island country in Southeast Asia, there are currently no non-stop flights between the two destinations.

Dai Hao Yu, Acting Senior Vice President of Marketing Planning for SIA stated that Brussels is an important European economic and political centre and the launch of this service adds another charming city to SIA’s list of destinations. He also stated that it also offered customers travelling from Europe an additional point to connect to Singapore, as well as the wider Asia-Pacific region through their hub at Changi Airport. He said that Singapore Airlines would continue to review its network and find opportunities to offer more options for their customers.

The Singapore Airlines network will provide Belgians and travellers from elsewhere in Europe an additional point to connect to Singapore, as well as the wider Asia-Pacific region via the hub at Changi Airport.

Four weekly flights

Singapore Airlines will operate four weekly flights to Brussels with the long-haul variant of its Airbus A350-900s, featuring 253 seats in three cabin classes: 42 in Business Class, 24 in Premium Economy Class, as well as 187 in Economy Class.

From 5th April 2024, a 12-hour flight will depart from Singapore to Brussels at 23:55 local time on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The flight in the opposite direction will depart Brussels on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays for Singapore.

Tickets will be made available for sale progressively through the various distribution channels from 13th  September 2023 for SIA’s Brussels flights.

The addition of Brussels will increase the number of European destinations in the SIA network to 13, reflecting its commitment to enhance its connectivity to this key region for the Airline.

August operating statistics

SIA and Scoot carried just under 3.0 million passengers during the month, up 43.5% from a year before. The Group passenger load factor (PLF) came in at 88.2% (+2.8 percentage points year-on-year), with SIA and Scoot posting monthly PLFs of 87.0% and 92.1% respectively.
