The 2021 list selection process started with an evaluation of 8,080 enterprises, representing more than $1 billion in sales, assessing them on the basis of a collection of key environmental, governance, social and economic performance metrics, including new social parameters reflected by both the pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement.

In the 2021 Global 100 list, the most sustainable firm is the French firm Schneider Electric. Schneider Electric has shifted away from high-voltage electricity distribution in the past 20 years to concentrate on data centers, decentralized electricity distribution and smart solutions to make the planet more electric, green, energy-efficient and digital.

Corporate Knights reported that due to its good results across a variety of sustainability requirements, Schneider Electric won the top rank in the list. 70 percent of the company’s revenue comes from sustainable solutions, while 73 percent of its investments are directed towards sustainable solutions. Also, in areas such as ethnic and gender diversity and resource productivity and protection, the company performed well.
