Canada reintroduces two immigration programs for caregivers, families

-

Canada (Commonwealth) _ Beginning January 1, 2024, the Canadian government has resumed two projects targeted at inviting caregivers to Canada through new applications.

According to Canada’s disclosures, these two programs are five-year experimental initiatives that allow eligible caregivers and their families to relocate and gain permanent residency. According to the most recent information released by the Canadian government, experienced caregivers can now use one of these schemes to immigrate to the North American country with their family.

Furthermore, the new data shows a dramatic reduction in the former need of 24 months of experience for caretakers, since just 12 months are now required to achieve the eligibility criterion.

According to the information available, the Home Based Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot are 5-years pilot programs that allow eligible caregivers and their family members to come to Canada with the intention of becoming permanent citizens.

If you have been offered a position as a caregiver in Canada or have prior experience working as a caregiver in Canada, you may be able to apply for permanent residency through one of these experimental programs. The application procedure will vary based on the applicant’s position and the amount of qualifying job experience they have. To qualify, you now just need one year of experience rather than 24 months.

Both of Canada’s existing caregiver pilot initiatives are accepting prospective employees. Thanks to the Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker trial initiatives, foreign caretakers seeking to work in Canada will no longer have to leave family members behind and will have a clearer road to Canadian permanent residency.

The pilot programs, which replaced the expiring Caring for Children and Caring for People with High Medical Needs pilots, opened for applications in 2019. They have been accused for keeping some workers in harsh jobs and apart from their family overseas. The pilots were deemed “ineffective” by the Liberal administration, which was not in office when they were launched in 2014.

The two new caregiver paths’ processing timelines have been delayed to begin. The government, on the other hand, established a new program in 2021 to complete at least 6,000 caregiver applications by the end of the year.

According to the administration, earlier modifications made in 2014 were not adequately understood by caregivers and interested parties. Many caregivers began working for families in Canada only to discover that they would not be able to get permanent residency under an existing scheme.

Caregivers will no longer be eligible for a work visa unless they have a job offer in Canada and fulfill the usual requirements for economic immigration programs. Caregivers will be allowed to begin accumulating the minimum two years of Canadian work experience to petition for permanent residency once they arrive in Canada.

Caregivers will receive additional advantages from the Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot. Work permits that are occupation-specific rather than employer-specific, allowing for a quick change of employers as required;

To assist families in coming to Canada together, open work visas and/or study permits for the caregivers’ immediate relatives; and an obvious shift from temporary to permanent status, so that caregivers may become permanent residents as soon as they meet the work experience criteria.

These new pilot programs provide international caregivers and their families a clear, straightforward path to permanent residency.

“Canada is looking after its caregivers.” “We made an effort to enhance the well-being of caregivers and their families who have traveled all over the world to care for our loved ones, and with these fresh pilots, we are doing just that,” said Ahmed Hussen, Canada’s former Immigration Minister.
