From Wednesday, 25 February to Saturday, 7 March 2026, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will embark on a three-nation Indo-Pacific tour. His visit will include stops in India, Australia, and Japan.

During his visit to India, Prime Minister Carney is scheduled to hold meetings in Mumbai before proceeding to New Delhi. In the capital, he is expected to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These meetings are anticipated to enhance the Canada–India relationship, with discussions likely to focus on trade, energy, technology, artificial intelligence, talent, culture, and defence.

India forms a key part of Prime Minister Carney’s three-nation Indo-Pacific tour, as announced by the Prime Minister’s Office in an official statement released on Monday, 23 February. The announcement highlighted the intended visits to India, Australia, and Japan, aimed at boosting trade, investment, and strategic ties.

According to the statement, Carney is expected to begin his Indian visit in Mumbai before travelling onward to New Delhi, where he will meet Prime Minister Modi. The two leaders are scheduled to focus on “elevating and expanding the Canada–India relationship” through high-level discussions.

Prime Minister Carney also plans to meet business leaders during his India visit to identify investment opportunities in Canada and promote new partnerships between organizations in both countries. This initiative aligns with Ottawa’s objective of diversifying trade and attracting fresh capital.

The visit comes as Canada’s new government outlines plans to build “a stronger, more independent, and more resilient economy” amid what it describes as a “more divided and uncertain world.” The statement further noted that the Indo-Pacific tour is intended to unlock new opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses across sectors such as trade, energy, technology, and defence, while deepening ties with three of Canada’s key regional partners.

Following his visit, Prime Minister Carney is expected to travel to Sydney and Canberra in Australia, where he will meet Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Discussions between the two leaders are expected to focus on defence and maritime operations, as well as critical minerals, trade, and advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence.

Carney is also expected to deliver addresses to both Houses of Australia’s Parliament, in addition to speaking before invited dignitaries. These addresses would mark the first such appearances by a Canadian Prime Minister in nearly two decades.
