Canada _ (Commonwealth Union) _The British Columbia South Coast is recuperating after a massive blizzard that was significantly worse than predicted. The Department of the Environment of the Government of Canada (Environment Canada) predicted 10 to 15 centimeters of snow in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley Monday night into Tuesday, but some places received double that amount.

The severe snow storm made driving conditions hazardous, resulting in accidents on practically every major road during morning commute. A snowfall, arctic discharge, or snow storm warning has been issued for the majority of the province.

“Last night, a low-pressure system made landfall in Washington State. “An accompanying front is brushing the extreme southern section of British Columbia, bringing another bout of heavy snow that began Monday evening,” stated Environment Canada.

The snow will end in the morning, but another 5 to 10 cm is forecast between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning around the southern areas of the Strait of Georgia, spanning Victoria to Qualicum Bay and near Sechelt.

“Consider delaying non-essential travel until circumstances improve,” Environment Canada said. It cautioned that visibility in heavy, blowing snow might drop to near nil at times.

“Last night, a low pressure touched down in Washington State. “An accompanying front is brushing the extreme southern section of British Columbia, bringing another bout of snowfall that began Monday evening,” stated Environment Canada.

“There may be a considerable impact on traffic at rush hour in metropolitan areas. Turn on your headlights and maintain a safe following distance if vision is restricted while driving,” the managing risks.

Several routes in the Lower Mainland were blocked Tuesday morning as cars attempted to negotiate the treacherous conditions. The Richmond RCMP reminds drivers to remove snow from their cars before leaving. For failing to do so, it halted 100 vehicles in three hours.
