COVID-19 sharpens Tobago’s razor-thin electoral margins

As Tobago enters its third major elections during the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a familiar backdrop—rising COVID-19 cases. During the 2020 General Elections, the country was mainly plagued by the original strains of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes the COVID-19 disease.

Tobago’s seven-day rolling average for cases remained low with lower virus transmissibility, peaking at approximately three cases a day and minimal loss of life. Tobago added 101 cases and one fatality to the island’s toll by the end of the post-election surge.
