Europe, Cyprus (Commonwealth Union) – Presidents of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides commenced an official visit to Poland on Thursday, engaging in discussions with the nation’s leader.
Joined by his spouse, Philippa Karsera Christodoulides, the president was welcomed at an official ceremony held at the presidential palace in Warsaw.
The Presidents of Cyprus and the Republic of Poland expressed their mutual desire to move further in the already strong relations between their countries. This sentiment was shared during talks held in Warsaw as part of the official visit by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Christodoulides, at the invitation of his Polish counterpart, Mr. Andrzej Duda.
In a statement after the talks, President Christodoulides indicated that it was a great pleasure and honor for him to be in Poland today on this historic, first official bilateral visit of a President of the Republic of Cyprus. The discussions not only reaffirm the excellent political relations, which have been particularly strengthened since the accession to the European Union (EU) in 2004, but also focus on further enhancing their cooperation in various sectors, especially tourism, trade, and investment, which have shown significant potential in recent years.
President Christodoulides further made reference to the impressive elevation in tourists between the two nations, and said “Poland currently is the third country in terms of tourist arrivals in Cyprus”.
In relation to trade, the President expressed satisfaction with the vital rise in commercial transactions between Cypruss and Poland. He reiterated his belief that there are still many prospects for elevating and expanding commercial transactions as well as mutual investments between the two nations, and they will engage explicitly and substantially in this direction.
The President of the Republic of Poland expressing his views among other, among others, said “this is the first visit of the Head of the Republic of Cyprus to Poland, this is a historic moment”.
