Dangote Refinery will be the reason why Ghana’s downstream oil sector will transform

GHANA (Commonwealth Union) – It is always exciting news when a country has found a solution to its industrial problems. Ghana has been down on its luck when it came to its oil sector. Which was disappointing as the oil sector in Ghana was booming at one point.

However, one can assume that with times things change and no one is still sure what happened to the oil sector but the government has been actively looking for solutions for a little while now. Dr. Mustapha Abdul Hamid, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority of Ghana, has made note that the Dangote refinery will be the solution to the problem.

Its difficultly to say if this will be a long-term solution but it seems like it will be as the refinery itself has been producing 650,000 barrels a day. This means that the refinery has stepped up their production game and is now helping the sector which was going down under very fast.

With the Dangote refinery coming through, Ghana as a country can start in a small scale and begin importing their petroleum to West African countries. This could also work economically as then the West African countries could save money by getting their petroleum from Ghana. Dr. Hamid appeared to be very excited about these plans of economical growth.

Ghana has a few oil refineries but it is the Dangote refinery that will help elevate the sector that is dying. This also created many job opportunities for the people of the country. Dr. Hamid stated that there will be monthly reports made to make sure all operations run smoothly but that there are teams working around the clock to find more solutions to keep the sector up and running.
