-

Aviation and Airlines (Commonwealth Union) _ The Nigerian federal government, under the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has given United Nigeria Airlines permission to conduct international flights to multiple countries. This authorization encompasses routes to the United States of America, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This decision enables the airline to expand its operations and provide international air travel services between Nigeria and these countries.

The approval, issued in a letter dated September 8, 2023, and signed by Mr. H.T. Ejiburu, the Director of Air Transport Management, acting on behalf of Minister Festus Keyamo of Aviation and Aerospace Development, is in accordance with Nigeria’s existing Bilateral Air Services Agreements (BASAs) with each respective country. This authorization allows for international flights to operate between Nigeria and these nations, aligning with established air service agreements to facilitate cross-border air travel and commerce.

The letter instructs United Nigeria Airlines Company Limited to collaborate with the Civil Aviation Authorities of the specified countries to finalize the required paperwork before initiating scheduled flight services. Moreover, the airline must adhere to Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs 2023) Part 18.5.1.1 A-C and cooperate with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to meet any additional prerequisites or conditions necessary for these international operations. This emphasizes the importance of regulatory compliance and coordination to ensure safe and compliant international flights.

Indeed, this approval represents a noteworthy milestone for United Nigeria Airlines, signifying its expansion into international flight operations across various destinations. It opens up new opportunities for the airline to connect Nigeria with countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, and the United Arab Emirates. This move can bolster the airline’s presence and offer passengers additional travel options while contributing to the growth and competitiveness of Nigeria’s aviation industry on the global stage.
