Five Singapore Airlines Aircraft Types With…

-

The flag carrier SIA offers five different business-class seats.   Singapore Airlines has always emphasized its premium offerings for both soft and hard products to retain its reputation as one of the world’s best airlines.  Concerning the latter, Singapore Airlines is reputed for having fantastic passenger cabins – from the airline’s iconic Suites to the many variations of business class cabins.

Currently, Singapore Airlines offers a few different business class seats across its fleet of almost 150 aircraft, from the smallest Boeing 737-800 to the massive Airbus A380 and everything in between.  With such a variety, here are the aircraft that feature the five largest business-class cabins :

1.     Airbus A380

Considering the Airbus A380 is the biggest aircraft in the Singapore Airlines fleet and the largest passenger airliner in operation, it probably comes as no surprise.  Retrofitted with 78 business class seats on the top deck that transform into fully-flat beds, the presently-active superjumbos offer 50 seats in the forward cabin along with 12 rows of four seats in a 1-2-1 configuration as well as an extra 2 (no D and F in row 24). Then there is the second cabin with 5 rows of 4 seats to house 20 seats, with 8 seats across 2 rows housed in the back cabin, all in the same configuration.

2.     Airbus A350

The Airbus A350 Ultra-Long-Range (ULR) houses the second-biggest business class cabin with 67 seats and is the chosen aircraft deployed for the world’s longest non-stop routes.  Although Singapore Airlines is the world’s most prominent operator of Airbus A350, with over 60 in the fleet, the Star Alliance member has them in 3 variations according to their usage and ranges.

These business class seats are configured in a 1-2-1 layout, with a significantly wider fully-flat bed in comparison to the seats on the other Airbus A350 versions, where every passenger has direct aisle access regardless of a window or centre position. One seat is wide enough to adequately fit two averagely-sized people sitting side by side for activities such as watching a movie together.

3.     Boeing 777-300ER

SIA’s Boeing 777-300ERs, which is next on this list boasts a modest 48 business class seats occupying the rear three rows in the forward cabin section, and the entire second section between the aircraft’s 2nd and 3rd main doors. These business class seats mirror those on the Airbus A350ULR, meaning that passengers will experience the same 1-2-1 configuration with spaciously wide, fully-flat bed seats.

4.     Airbus A350 Long-Haul

Also known as the Airbus A350-900 standard version, the Airbus A350 Long-Haul aircraft sports slightly fewer business class seats than the Boeing 777-300ERs, with only 42 in the cabin.   This is again, configured in a 1-2-1 layout, with 26 roomy fully-flat beds fitted in the forward section between the aircraft’s main doors one and two, and the remaining 16 just behind door two.

5.     Airbus A350 Medium-Haul

The last variation of the SIA Airbus A350 fleet closes up the list with 40 business class seats in the cabin.  All of these fully-flat beds mirror those found on Singapore Airline’s Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner fleet. However, the business class seats on the medium-haul versions across the three different Airbus A350 versions were trimmed down and are the narrowest and shortest which is an often noticeable difference from those featured on the standard and ultra-long-haul versions.

If the list continued, with the Boeing 787-10 following behind with 36 business class seats, then the Boeing 737-800 would follow with 12.  Last but not least, ten business class seats are featured on the airline’s Boeing 737 MAX 8s.  Of these remaining three aircraft types, the Boeing 737-800 is the only one that does not feature fully flat-bed business class seats.
