Future-Ready in Logistics and Supply Chain Management

(Commonwealth) _ Since a few years ago, automation and artificial intelligence (AI) have been on our trend radar. It is starting to appear in more procedures in 2023. Automation, which is just a machine doing several tasks, has been around for a long time. Technology is used in automation to lessen the need for human intervention. Automation is incapable of performing tasks that are not expressly programmed for it since it lacks a brain.

On the other hand, artificial intelligence (AI) aims to replicate aspects of human intellect and has the capacity to “learn” on its own to help with more challenging, complicated tasks. While AI still needs some human input, it also uses machine learning to make decisions independently and without supervision. The whole Logistics Supply Chain, not only the picking, picking, and sorting processes, is being disrupted by AI and automation. It is essential to increase agility by being flexible in a sector where projections for the flow of goods and customer demand are sometimes difficult to make owing to a variety of circumstances.

The logistics sector may be digitalized in countless ways, and Saloodo! alone offers a wide range of alternatives. To start, it gives shippers and carriers access to a digital platform for logistics, allowing them to integrate and streamline their operations. Together with digital platforms, we saw a tendency toward digitization as a means of coping with challenging working conditions. The labor force was already at its lowest point ever in 2022, and things won’t get better in 2023. The newest warehouse robots are already sufficiently sensitive for our future of work, allowing them to coexist with human workers in a logistics center without risking their safety. In the future, robots may potentially play a significant role in the supply chain, helping to load and unload delivery vehicles.

As digitalization grows, opportunities to get insight through data and monitoring open up. The EU’s Supply Chain Law, which went into effect in 2021, will have an impact on businesses and their supply chains since they will be held accountable for upholding human rights and sustainability throughout their whole supply chain. Beginning in 2023, businesses with at least 3,000 employees will put a special emphasis on avoiding all forms of child labor, exploitation, discrimination, and insufficient labor law protection. The measure also addresses other forms of environmental degradation, including illicit logging, improper pesticide usage, tainted water supplies, and air pollution.

The idea of having complete openness and visibility in the supply chain is still very new, having just begun to take shape around 15 years ago. It is becoming mandatory to communicate supply chain data as demand grows and technology advances. Supply chain visibility has to go further in 2023 and beyond employing real-time data integration from beginning to finish. Sustainability is and will continue to be a key component for all logistics companies. Decarbonization-focused operations are becoming more and more important, for both the general public and for customers. As pollution is a public problem, logistics will be greatly impacted by it.

The DPDHL introduced the “GoGreen Plus” option as an upgrade to every client purchase by the end of 2022. The goal is to employ a “insetting” strategy for climate change to stop the production of hazardous climatic gases before it gets to the point where it has so far. This will be done in stages, starting with the use of alternative fuels in long-distance and local transportation for bigger vehicles. The usage of electric cars serves as a complement to this. DHL is lowering the quantity of carbon dioxide produced by shipping the sender’s goods by taking these actions. Important sustainable components include packing stations that use less electricity or run on solar power.
