Australia (Commonwealth Union)_ Thenisai Thendral Deva, a famous Indian music composer from Tamil Nadu, was recently honored at the Australian Parliament for his decades of contributions to Tamil movies and music. Accordingly, Deva was seated in the Speaker’s chair and bestowed with a ceremonial scepter, a unique gesture that celebrated both his personal accomplishments and the global recognition of Tamil musical history. The award was presented by the Australian Tamil Arts and Culture Development Centre, in collaboration with the Australian government.

Deva, a pioneer of the “Gaana” genre in Tamil film music, has composed for over 400 films over his 36-year career. He has collaborated with well-known artists such as Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, carving out his own identity in an era dominated by musical luminaries like Ilaiyaraaja and A.R. Rahman. Deva also praised the Australian government for presenting him with the Speaker’s chair, a crucial event that illustrates how music and art are bridging cultural divides.
